Corey became interested in Olympic Archery after watching videotapes of the 1988 Olympics Archery competition. He started competition through JOAD in the cadet division in 1995. After shooting in local and state tournaments for two years he began shooting in national level tournaments, amassing a very good record for major tournaments and scores. He won just about every local, state and regional tournament he entered. He suffered a broken arm in the spring of 2000 causing him to miss the indoor nationals that year. This is the only nationals he has missed since he started competition. The cast came off in late May, with the help of a great physical therapist  he fully recovered and went on to win all of the outdoor championships that summer. This exemplifies his dedication, love of the sport and work ethic.

One of Corey's major accomplishment was winning the 117th National Outdoor Championships in the summer of 2001 at age of 15. This was his first year in the FITA Competitive Class shooting adult distances and he was the youngest in the class. He shot a 2564 double FITA score, tying the national record! If he had entered the senior division he would have placed 8th overall.

Corey loves Olympic Archery competition and he dreams of making the USA Olympic Archery Team. He has excellent practice habits. In the summer he practices  4-8 hours a day preparing for tournaments. More recently he has learned how to build and maintain his archery equipment. He has a great support system consisting of his family, local tournament shooters.  He has access to training facilities at three major clubs in the area. Joliet Archery Club, Chicago Bow Hunters, and Auroraland Archers,  all have excellent indoor and outdoor facilities.
